Reasons to quantify your accomplishments for employers

Reasons to quantify your accomplishments for employersReasons to quantify your accomplishments for employersReasons to quantify your accomplishments for employersThere are several reasons why it is essential to quantify ones accomplishments. For example for a Public Manager, measuring his performance and checking accomplishments, it will help his superiors and the firm in general understand his capabilities and level of competency. In addition, doing so will help his employers in several areas such as overall control, budget, promotion and even help the firm learn more about their activities. courtesy of A.Brown unsplash.comReasons to quantify your accomplishmentsThe Magic In NumbersSpecific numbers play a very important role especially to the overall development of the firm. Attaching numbers to your accomplishments helps define and measure your accomplishments better. With numbers to play with, it is possible to make comparisons, set future goals and even measure performance of th e firm. When your list of accomplishments has a list of numbers attached to each factor, they start to make more sense. This also improves your credibility. For Contextualisation PurposesQuantifying your accomplishments helps provide a great level of context by helping the employers place the list of accomplishments into perspective. For an employer handling several departments, there are many employees to manage. With accomplishment reports from employees of each department along with the specific numbers, it becomes very easy to understand who to assign what task, with effect that overall productivity increases. For Efficiency MonitoringIf you are an employer in a big firm, there are many reports for you to get through daily. However, if the reports are simply a list of accomplishments, then it becomes almost impossible to get through all. On the other hand, if the report quantifies the accomplishments, highlighting the numbers it makes life much simpler for the employer and is also likely to lead to a more successful firm.Keeping Track of the Firms ObjectivesMany firms implement KPI (key performance indicator). What KPI does is help determine how well the company is doing at meeting it goals. It is common for a manager to set out a number for the KPI for a project. This can be used for several purposes including measuring the performance of an individual employee. Now, for a firm that does implement such a structure involving KPIs, it becomes essential for an employee to quantify their accomplishments in a well-defined manner.Gauging Company PerformanceIt is always essential for any firm to monitor the progress of the employees and the overall firm. There are several methods to get this done. The best way to do this is by using numbers. Quantifying your accomplishments and placing them in a report can go a long way towards helping the manager gauge the progress of the company or firm. How to quantify your accomplishments? There are many advantages of quantifyi ng your accomplishments as already described in the article. It is not only important to make the list, it is also necessary to make sure it is done in the right format. Thus placing numbers to important accomplishments especially when they stand out is vital. Here a few sample accomplishments that should always be accompanied with the right number. clients acquired in the month of January of files organized of locations opened or closed of people successfully trained% of satisfied clients in the year 2016 of clients managed% of client referrals ratio of client retentionConclusionA list on how one can quantify their accomplishments would be endless. What is important here is to keep everything in context. For a recruitment firm it is important to know how many contracts were won and employees successfully placed. The accomplishments thus should be focused towards this subject. Another very important factor to remember is to use the right kind of language in a report. It is a good id ea to highlight the figures in a summary. But at the saatkorn time use strong language while writing a report.

2D Nanomaterials Revolutionizing Device Design

2D Nanomaterials Revolutionizing Device Design 2D Nanomaterials Revolutionizing Device Design A new generation of nanoelectronic devices is emerging as a result of recent advances in research involving two-dimensional (2-D) nanomaterials. The most widely studied 2-D nanomaterial is graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms only one molecule thick and packed in a hexagonal lattice. The material exhibits exceptional strength and possesses many other novel electrical and optical properties that have scientists buzzing since its first isolation in 2004. The electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties of graphene make it attractive for a variety of potential applications, including aerospace, automotive, electronics, energy storage, solar, oil service, and lubricant sectors. However, graphene lacks one key property that has hampered development in electronic devices. Researchers have struggled to build electronic circuits out of graphene because the material lacks a bandgap, an important property that allows it to stop conducting or switch off, and is essential for many electronic applications.Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), another 2-D nanomaterial, is proving to be much better suited for designing electronic components. MoS2 has been used as an industrial lubricant for decades, but a Swiss research team uncovered its 2-D potential in 2011 for creating highly flexible thin-film transistors.Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is proving to be better suited for designing electronic components.Improved wertzuwachsA report on the production of complex electronic circuits made from MoS2 was published in Nano Letters in August 2012. The paper, titled Integrated Circuits Based on Bilayer MoS2 Transistors, was co-authored by Han Wang and Lili Yu, graduate students in the department of electrical engineering and computer science (EECS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the direction of Toms Palacios, the Emmanuel E. Landsman Associate Professor of EECS.According to Pl acios, MoS2 has a natural bandgap and overcomes the shortcomings of graphene while still exhibiting many of graphenes advantages for electronic and optoelectronic applications. The future of electronics is based on fabricating devices with these new, thin, 2-D materials, says Placios. Graphene is only one atom thick while MoS2 is three atoms thick. The performance of many semiconductor devices, from transistors, to LEDs and sensors will significantly improve when we use these new 2-D materials.Graphene lacks a bandgap which is essential for many electronic applications.Wang and Yu described a variety of basic electronic devices that were fabricated on the material an inverter, which switches an input voltage to its opposite a NAND gate, a basic logic element that can be combined to carry out almost any kind of logic einzelschritt a memory device, one of the key components of all computational devices and a more complex circuit called a ring oscillator, made up of 12 interconnected tr ansistors, which can produce a precisely tuned wave output.Potential ApplicationsPalacios envisions a wide array of potential applications for MoS2 and other 2-D materials. At the beginning, it is most important that we dont try to compete with existing applications of high-tech electronics. The entry barrier is too high. For a completely new material and technology to be successful, we need to find completely new applications that cannot be done with existing semiconductors, he adds. One of those applications envisioned by Palacios and his group is flexible and transparent electronic devices, such as displays embedded into a window of a house or office. We want to enable ubiquitous electronicswe want electronic sensors in every building and we want clothes with electronic sensors, systems, and communications devices. We need a new type of material that can be fabricated in very large areas on a flexible substrate. You cant do this with conventional silicon, he says.Another key appli cation for MoS2 is chemical and biological sensors. According to Palacios, thanks to the electrical conductive properties of these thin 2-D materials, chemical sensors with extremely low noise performance and very high sensitivity could be fabricated. He also landsees potential for light emitting devices such as LEDs and lasers.Palacios predicts anfangsbuchstabe commercial applications of devices using these new materials could happen in 3-5 years. However, several challenges must still be solved. It is important that we find a way to fabricate very large areas of MoS2 at low cost, says Palacios. Most of the results reported in the literature are based on small flakes of MoS2, just a few microns in length. We need to develop high-yield techniques to grow very large areas. He adds that researchers need to understand how to reproducibly modify the charge density of the material in a controlled manner and further research on how light emission occurs in these materials.MoS2 is only the f irst material of a new family of 2-D semiconductors, says Palacios. We need to perform more experimental and theoretical studies to see whether MoS2 is the best material or not. However, from what we know today, it looks very promising. We believe that the twenty-first century will be all about 2-D materials in the same way that the information revolution of the twentieth century was based on 3-D semiconductors, like silicon.Tom Ricci is the owner of Ricci Communications. The future of electronics is based on fabricating devices with these new, thin, 2-D materials.Toms Palacios, Emmanuel E. Landsman Associate Professor, EECS, MIT

10 Skills and Qualities That Employers Want to See in Candidates

10 Skills and Qualities That Employers Want to See in Candidates 10 Skills and Qualities That Employers Want to See in Candidates Welcome to Recruiter QA, where we pose employment-related questions to the experts and share their answers Have a question youd like to ask? Leave it in the comments, and you might just see it in the next installment of Recruiter QAThis Weeks Question Hiring new employees is a complex process and were not going to pretend it isnt. But, in general, what skill matters most to you when hiring? What skill hard or soft can make or break an applicants chances of landing the role?1. InterestThe most important consideration for me when hiring is the candidates interest. More than anything, you want to hire an employee who can stay motivated to grow and adapt to the position. But motivation is very difficult to judge in an interview. Interest, however, is a great indicator that a candidate will stay motivated. And interest is very easy to evaluate. Thats why I love to ask the old interview question Do you have any questions for me? The questions they ask are a better indicator of their interest than practically any other step of the job application process. - Marc Prosser, Fit Small Business 2. Alignment With Our Core ValuesNo matter the position, we hire the same way. We look for people who exhibit our core values people who are passionate, dependable, adaptable, helpful, resilient, and who communicate well. Your values will look different, but the importance remains the same. If you only hire people that embody the key attributes that your company values, you cant go wrong.- Miles Jennings, Recruiter.com 3. People SkillsThere is virtually no role in any company where a little bit of each of the following skills isnt imperative people skills, conflict resolution, and problem solving. Without these three skills, its difficult for an employee to function as an effective part of a team. - John Jersin, Connectifier 4. The Ability to Mu ltitaskI look for the ability to multitask above all other skills, and I ask for demonstrable examples where this skill has been used to achieve success. People who are easily flustered can shift the energy in an organization and will definitely impact the dynamics of a small team. The ability to work on several tasks in a calm manner is essential to success. - Andrea Berkman Donlon, The Constant Professional 5. Emotional IntelligenceEmotional intelligence (EI) includes self-management and self-awareness. It is the ability to be aware of your emotions and manage your behavior. EI also includes social competence, which is the ability to understand other peoples moods, behaviors, and motives in order to improve the quality of your relationships. If a candidate can manage themselves, stay cool under pressure, and understand how they are with others, then chances for success are high. - Jay Candelario, Candelario Insurance Advisors 6. AttitudeI cant fix a bad attitude, and a bad attit ude is also infectious. I was once told the when you sit across from a candidate, you should ask yourself, What is their attitude, and do I want others catching it? To uncover a candidates attitude, try to get them into a comfortable environment, not the traditional behind-the-desk interview. Go to a patio and have lunch or coffee. Put them in a relaxed environment, and you will be surprised what comes out. - Roy Barker, Moore Diversified Services 7. The Get Sh*t Done GeneI look for one thing in a manager that I call the get sh*t done gene, or the get er done gene. This is an extremely rare commodity that is practically as unobtainium as common sense. It is the difference between a manager who sits quietly at their desk waiting to be micromanaged, or who puts all of their talent into avoiding the wheel of blame, and a manager who is able to do their job which is getting sh*t done. One tests for this by giving the candidate situations and asking how they would handle them. If the a nswer includes the word communication, I probably have a manager on my hands. - Alan Robbins , Moose WorldWide Digital8. IntelligenceWhat matters the most to me when hiring is intelligence. I realize thats a quality. As a skill, it manifests as knowledge, the ability to apply that knowledge and learn more, and the ability to solve problems. When I hire a new employee, they must be smarter than I am if not in all ways, then at least in all ways related to their area of expertise. I firmly believe that if Im the smartest person in my company, then Im in trouble. - J. Colin Petersen, J I.T. Outsource 9. WillWill over skill Will is the soft skill that aligns with a personal affective nature. It is what motivates a person to take action or not. With 20 years experience coaching small business owners and recruiting in corporate America, I know that will cannot be taught. If I find an individual that is missing some of the hard skills, I can teach them those skills. But no amount of education or training will teach someone to want to do the job and do it well. That comes from inside of them.- Lisa Baker-King , Zebecs 10. CoachabilityWhen it comes down to the final few candidates, it matters less what the skill sets are. If the candidate is unwilling to learn and be coached, then they are not a good fit for the company. If the candidate is coachable, that will tip the process in their favor. Missing skills can be taught and improved upon.In addition, a candidate that has been coached tends to have a greater loyalty to the company that has brought them up and taught them the skills that they need. The company is also more likely to promote someone who hasbeen coached and has proven that they can grow, adapt, and succeed. - Jennifer Maffei, Virtual EA Services, LLC

Hiring Managers Brain Exposed

Hiring Managers Brain ExposedHiring Managers Brain ExposedHiring Manager Jillian Zavitz unveils herbei brain and what she looks for when she reviews a resume. It was succinct, and on target. In short, the teachers resume was perfect for a job teaching English as a second language (ESL) online. The resume worked. It caught the attention of Jillian Zavitz, programs manager for TalktoCanada.com, which offers online English learning instruction.Such a revelation is rare for resume writers and readers. Theres no transparency when youre job-hunting. A hiring manager doesnt take time out of her day to tell us our resumes are too long or our experience irrelevant, or that weve presented ourselves suspiciously as the perfect candidate. That lack of transparency stops here. Weve persuaded hiring managers to dissect what it is they liked enough about a resume to hire a candidate. Heres Zavitz, letting us peer into her hiring process.Short Sweet FocusedFirst off, the cover letter really focused on exactly what Zavitz was looking for. The openingThe enclosed resume will highlight my achievements in the teaching field as well as showcase my dedication to education. I have a strong academic background in education and applied linguistics. I have recently completed a masters degree in Applied Linguistics, specializing in literacy. The cover letter also covered the candidates teaching experience, her future, what her goals are, why she thinks shed be a good person for this lokalitt, Zavitz said. Its short and sweet and grabs my attention. She has experience abroad, shes taught a bunch of levels, she obviously has education behind it and its exactly what Im looking for.Everything in the resume was also related to education. Personally I dont care if you sweep floors somewhere, Zavitz said. I dont want to read that. Thats not important.FlexibleAt the top of the candidates one-page resume, Zavitz said she loved the objective in the candidates executive summary To obtain a highly re sponsible part-time or full-time position in the teaching field where proven skills and education can be used to benefit the school in its success.I love that its not demanding, Zavitz said. Shes not just looking for full time shes available part time as well. Shes flexible, shes dedicated to teaching, wants not only to help students but the school as well. I imagined that shed help the school, give us ideas and help us grow with her dedication to the position.BelievableZavitz liked the resume, but just as importantly, she believed it. She said that hiring managers can tell when people are filling it with blah, blah, blah, and just trying to get our attention. Too-good-to-be-true resumes give themselves away by parroting the job listings exact requirements. In this case, an unbelievable resume would have included experience in the Middle East (rare), familiarity with the companys platform (impossible unless the candidate had worked with the company before) and a preference for work ing the graveyard shift (unlikely).Specific DatesZavitz also liked the specificity of the candidates experience dates, which listed day, month and year. For Zavits, specific dates are a sign of validity that the dates arent fictitious. And while acceptable, vague dates like 2005-2006 are hard to pinpoint, which personally bothers Zavits who said it can mean anything from two days to two years.Knowing how her industry works, the specific dates allowed Zavitz to interpret something about the candidates level of commitment. The candidate taught at a Chinese school for exactly one year, which told Zavitz that she had a one-year contract and then moved on.ReferencesThis candidate listed two references at the bottom of her resume. Professional resume writers dont typically advise job seekers to put references on their resumes and Zavitz rarely calls the references candidates volunteer - the real references are the ones they dont have, not the good ones they list. But in this case, the ref erences were actual people related to past positions. Theyre not like your moms best friend, Zavitz said. Its related to the position theyre applying for.The educator was hired and successfully worked with TalktoCanada for two years. In other words, she was as good as her very good resume.

What You Should Do About Resume Opening Statements Starting in the Next Eight Minutes

What You Should Do About Resume Opening Statements Starting in the Next Eight Minutes Using Resume Opening Statements Moreover, opening bewertung enables a writer to create a relation to the reader. The opening statement sets the tone for the remainder of the essay. It is not the appropriate place to argue rather, it is a place to present the facts. It should be brief and general rather than long and detailed. Possessing a better comprehension of the procedure and applying the appropriate method of opening any instance is critical, for no beginner would ever wish to acquire embarrassed before everyone. There are four big elements to a comprehensive opening argument. In a lot of ways, an objective replaces a lot of the detail you would place in your professional experience section. Therefore, its smart to avoid writing your professional objective. Objective Statement Articulating an objective can convince employers that you know what you would like to do and are acquainted w ith the area. In addition, it comprises a blank table for planning custom objectives and objectives. An objective is a brief statement that clarifies your goals concerning the form of employment desired and the way in which your skills make you a nice fit. Career objective is the initial element of resume writing. As mentioned earlier, in the event the work applicant has multiple objectives, then theyre likely to want several versions. Finally, make certain to compose a new statement for each job you apply for, so the employer sees what makes you an excellent fit for that particular job. Parse the work description for the particular qualifications the employer seeks. Employers would like to know what you could do for them and how youll be in a position to do it. Whether an objective statement is used, 1 thing to bear in mind is to state it with respect to advantage to the employer. A strong resume objective will highlight your unique attributes that help the geschftliches mi teinander reach its objective. In the majority of instances, a resume objective is merely a couple of sentences long. The issue with objective statements is they focus on what you want instead of how you are able to satisfy the requirements of the employer. My credo regarding resumes has ever been, you would like to make it as simple as possible for the employer to see at a moments glance which youre perfect for the job. You may often apply your offering statement beyond your resume and portfolio. The value of a resume mission statement is in the fact it highlights the mission and the basis of the resume. Rather than stating what you would like, make the previous sentence of the profile statement all about your urge to add to the employer. Companies are prepared to pay top dollar to employ somebody who can deliver success. Resume objectives can be somewhat controversial. It is preferable to concentrate on just what the employer is looking for. Employers dont need to waste time reading lots of meaningless babble. The Unexpected Truth About Resume Opening Statements The target of a branding statement is to decide on a candidate besides the competition whilst also successfully positioning themselves to attain their very own distinctive job search objectives. Include the business name in the purpose statement to demonstrate that you are intent on working there. Search for recent news about the business youre applying for and tie it in the work opening. The above mentioned opening allowes the recruiter to swiftly identify where youre coming from, that youve had industry experience (something that might be in the selection criteria) and core transferable skills. Remember that the honors category is reserved for the activities which you were chosen to take part in through some form of selection procedure. Writing career objective is a typical practice in the expert industry. Whenever you wish to emphasize that youre ambitious, that you understand wh at you want in a career, or you have the skills for the particular job, you could benefit from a resume objective. On the flip side, the moment the work applicant has strong experience, there is not any need to trust the academic training any longer and it doesnt need to get mentioned. So what are the fundamental requirements or requirements and ways to get it down. When you determine the skills you need to concentrate on, do some research and see whether they line up with job requirements listed for the positions youre seeking. When youre crafting your resume objective, you should concentrate on particular abilities and experiences which are directly associated with the job.

In the best case scenario, both parties want the same outcome a salary negotiation that results in a win for ev eryone. How do you achieve that goal? Here are five salary negotiation tips to help you get the IT salary you wantConduct your market research. Prior to your salary negotiation discussion, do your homework so that your salary requests are based on actual market data. Review salaries posted on current online job postings as well as reputable salary guides from industry experts. Your research is critical to your effectiveness and credibility in the salary negotiation process.Understand the landscape. While outside research is always valuable in the negotiation process, understand that there are equally important data points to consider based on the companys budget for the role, IT salary of the previous candidate in this (or a similar) role, and an understanding of how much flexibility the hiring manager has in salary negotiations.IT salary is only one aspect of compensation. While starting salary is an important component of the overall compensation package, its not the only one. A su ccessful salary negotiation should include a comprehensive view of the total package and an understanding that while there may be IT salary negotiation limitations, there also may be flexibility in negotiating time off, flexible work schedules or telecommuting options. Even if you cant negotiate a higher starting salary, you may be able to get an extra vacation week, for example.Take emotion out of the equation. Negotiating your starting salary can become personal. Resist the temptation to dig in your heels or become emotional or defensive. Executive Resumes What Matters Most Must Appear First

Executive Resumes What Matters Most Must Appear First Executive Resumes What Matters Most Must Appear First Savvy executives dont beat around the bush. They want straight facts, fast. When it comes to their executive resumes, this same strategy must apply.Often, executive resumes are written with a text-heavy approach. Copious amounts of content with detailed work histories from the past 20 to 30 years in excruciatingly dry and dull verbiage are crammed into the file. The reason? Executives have a lot of experience and feel compelled to share it all.Yet the tactic to include everything ever done doesnt work in a modern resume. Nor does burying key facts. Recruiters want a quick read, with easy to absorb information and proof of ability and they dont want to hunt for it.To avoid smothering the audience with unrelated details and burying greatest achievements, employ these 3 simple, modern executive resume approaches1. Start Strong with Your Resume Headline and SummaryA weak resume op ening sets the stage for a weak reaction.Garner attention at the get-go by positioning your unique value-add in a strong headline and compelling summary. Leverage prime resume real estate the top 1/3 of the file to showcase why you are the candidate of choice. Be specific with who you are, what you are known for, how you can help the target company, and proof of ability. Keep content succinct and measurable so it can be easily absorbed and understood.Example of a strong resume headlinePresident and CEO Manufacturing Start-Ups and TurnaroundsPL up to $160M Global Teams of 300+ 300% Revenue Growth in 3 YearsExample of a clear headline + succinct (yet compelling) summarySenior Business Executive President OwnerPropelled Global-Reach Operations to $30M Revenue in 2 YearsEntrepreneurial leader who consistently delivers output on par with business goals. Proven success at growing revenue and profits, even within challenged economies. Built a private business with a global reach, boos ting revenue 165% in the first year alone. Steered business towards data-driven operations, implementing proactive and tangible infrastructure and high-ROI marketing and sales strategies which reversed declining revenues and solidified local market control.2. Compel the Reader to Keep Reading with Concise PointsInstead of a traditional reverse-chronological resume format, where a reader has to wade through each work experience to identify key facts, consider a combination (also known as hybrid) format and include a dedicated achievements section near the departure of the file.An achievements sections allows you to mine out top career achievements from throughout your career and position them near the forefront. Big impacts and hard results are difficult to overlook.Next, eliminate wordiness and excess details and just deliver straight facts. Lofty claims and overextended superlatives dont sell metrics do. If content near the start of the resume can capture, and keep, the hiring aut horitys attention they will be compelled to learn more and keep reading the rest of your career history. Honestly, it takes only seconds to read the following, and content is likely to stickACHIEVEMENTS SNAPSHOT20+ Years Sales Business Development Leadership10.2% Annual Sales Growth Average over 6 Years$160M Global Operations 465+ Employees46% European Business Expansion in 5 Years$1.8M Single Year Cost-Savings350% Growth to Single Customer Sales in 4 Years3. Front Load StatementsOne of the most important strategies for executive resumes is to prove your claims. The best way to backup abilities is with clear evidence measurable impacts, specific quantities, and strong metrics. To boost the value and impact of an executive resume, load it with relevant results. Even better, lead with them.Leading with results and front-loading points throughout the file generates a strong impression, eliminates guesswork, and decreases the risk of important proof being overlooked. Shorter statement s also pop off the page (as demonstrated in point 2) while totenstill offering loads of value. The difference between the two points below is discernibleWeaker, wordier statementDeveloped a product line with new features which helped decrease service by half for all end users while also increasing profits $32M over the course of three years.Succinct, front-loaded statementAdded $32M in new profit over 3 years by developing differentiated product line which decreased service time 50% for end users.Front-loaded points in a resume powerfully position strengths while spoon feeding the reader exactly what they need to know to support their decision are you the right candidate? To be selected, readers need to know you have what it takes to lead, create, generate, and be strategic all with positive business results. With these 3 strategies top of mind an executive resume can be cleared of excessive info, making personal value easy to identify and digest. Break through digital distractions to make a real connection

Break through digital distractions to make a real connectionBreak through digital distractions to make a real connectionEver conducted a meeting only to find yourself looking at the tops of digitally distracted heads?Have you ever used your device or checked it for messages while another person spoke?Digital distractions have become the new workplace normal. Having 24/7 access to emailles, texts, and calls is considered a competitive advantage in the business world. While real-time communication is beneficial, devices pose a challenge for leaders to maintain and grow influence with clients, colleagues, and employees. Many clients express concern that technological distractions make it difficult to capture their teams attention. They also worry the overuse of digital communication creates inefficiencies as it lacks the clarity other communication methods provide. Leaders I work with recognize the challenge of growing their influence when others are too distracted to tune in to what th ey have to say.Surveys indicate two out of three people dont know how to stop others from insensitive technology use. Here are eight ways leaders can unplug from digital distractions, use it to grow their level of influence and teach employees how to disconnect from technology and plug into conversations that matter.Create a no-phone zoneFew things are as challenging to communication than the ongoing distractions of phone alerts, chirps and calls. Studies have shown people who switch back and forth between tasks, such as listening and texting, can lose up to 50% of efficiency and accuracy. Their ability to pay attention to what is being said in an accurate and clear manner becomes challenged. To combat this problem in meetings, consider creating a no-phone zone. Ask everyone to keep phones out of site so undivided attention can be respectfully given to the speaker or topic of discussion.Hang up the email. Pick up the phoneProfessionals are far too dependent upon email to be their source of communication. The back-and-forth dialogue of emails can be time-consuming and create mora confusion than clarity. They lack the tone needed for listeners to understand what is truly being said. Challenge yourself and employees to refrain from emails when a simple phone call would do. Implement a rule of thumb that if an email is going to require three or more exchanges to clarify a question or message, pick up the phone instead. One conversation at a timeFew things signal a lack of respect as a listener taking a phone call while someone is talking. No matter if youre in a meeting or a simple hallway conversation, taking phone calls during another conversation is off limits. Silence incoming calls while others are talking. If you are expecting an important call, preface the information at the beginning of the conversation so expectation s are respectfully set.Out of sight. Out of mindWhen conducting one-on-ones, hosting client luncheons or coaching employees, refrain from having your phone in sight. The mere presence of a phone creates a subconscious expectation of interruptions and distractions. It can prevent you and your listener from truly connecting in a deep, meaningful manner. By keeping the phone out of sight, everyone can remain focused on conversation, verbal and non-verbal messages.Text to thank, not to talkFew things are harder to understand and easier to misinterpret than a text message. No matter how many emojis are used, text is absent of tone and vocal inflections while littered with acronyms and shorthand not everyone understands.
